LA CROSSE (WKBT) -- Alyssa Sheedlow is a psychology major at UW-La Crosse with big plans. She's working continue her education and earn a degree, but a possible tuition hike might affect that.
"My main priority is school, I just feel like I'd have to work harder than I've been working just to afford paying for this," said Sheedlow. Â
An increase in tuition might require Sheedlow to have two jobs. She already works 10 hours a week making $16 an hour. Her goal is to go to grad school. If the Universities of Wisconsin increases tuition, she might have to change her plans.
"I'm planning on going for Pre OT. Grad school for that is not cheap at all," Sheedlow says. "If that goes up too, thinking of looking at something else I can do in psych where grad school isn't as much."
Sheedlow already paid for her freshman year. What the board of regents decides next week will determine how she pays for her sophomore year.
If she needs to spend more money, she might consider transferring.
"If there's something that offers the same thing I'm looking for, there's a possibility. La Crosse is a little expensive compared to the other UW schools," Sheedlow says.Â
President Jay Rothman argued that even with the increase, UW is the most affordable in the Midwest.
