'Water is Wealth': Anand Mahindra advocates AC water harvesting
The chairman of Mahindra Group, Anand Mahindra lauded a video on X showcasing harvesting water from an air conditioner. The business tycoon said ‘water is wealth’ and it should be stored safely.

The video clip highlights a simple yet effective method of collecting water from air conditioners.

“This needs to become standard equipment throughout India wherever people use A/Cs. Water is Wealth. It needs to be stored safely. Spread the word,” tweeted Anand Mahindra sharing the video.

The post has caught the attention of users on X with over 4.5 lakh views and 10,000 likes so far. On the other hand, it also has amassed hundreds of comments lauding the effort.

The X post marks a significance as Bengaluru, often referred to as the ‘Silicon Valley of India’, has been grappling with a severe water crisis for the last few days. The rapid growth in population and urbanisation has impacted the city’s water storage and supply adversely.

One of the users wrote, “Wow. This is some way to save water.”

Another commented, “I have always thought that such a massive amount of water is getting wasted from AC and that this must be used for some purpose. It's really impressive that someone executed this idea. With small execution, a lot can happen.”

“Absolutely! Water conservation is crucial everywhere. Let's keep spreading awareness for a better future”, wrote a third X user.

Meanwhile, some of the X users have also urged the chairman of Mahindra Group to implement the same model at Mahindra offices as well.

“Sir, Thanks for sharing and spreading this vital information. Be a role model and implement in your offices across India and share a few photos to motivate other Indians. Waiting for a few photos this week after implementation,” read a comment.

Another user suggested, “Please set up in the Mahindra facilities.”

The one-minute and 14-second video clip showcases a setup where a pipe is attached to the AC unit’s condensate drain. It is seen to direct the water into a collection tank. This shows that air conditioners generate a significant amount of water, which we usually drain and waste.

Mahindra’s endorsement of harvesting the air conditioner’s water has struck a chord to encourage people to use it for different purposes such as cleaning, gardening and more.
