With the weather beginning to break, it’s time to get out and about. Here are five things to do this weekend in Westmoreland County:

Coffee and Conversation

Organizers at the Greensburg YMCA, 101 S. Maple Ave., will be hosting the monthly “Coffee and Conversation” event on Friday with some special guests.

To raise awareness of the cause, YMCA Greensburg will be partnering with Big Brothers/Big Sisters of the Laurel Region this month. Guests will be able to learn about the programs and be introduced to members of Big Brothers/Big Sisters. Attendees are welcome for free coffee, new community connections and networking.

Cyber security workshop

On Friday at 1 p.m., YWCA Westmoreland, 424 N. Main St., will partner with S&T Bank to offer cyber security training to give guests tips on how to protect their technology while online banking and shopping.

The class will cover basic cyber security tips and includes a question-and-answer session, where attendees can address their specific concerns with professionals.

Model fort contest

This Saturday, youth ages 9 - 17 are invited to compete in Fort Ligonier’s annual model fort competition.

Participants can work independently or in groups of up to four to create their own 18th century fort. Entry is free.

Competitors are required to drop off their models at Fort Ligonier, 200 S. Market St., no later than 1 p.m. on Saturday. The winners will be announced after the judging at 3 p.m.

A $100 cash prize will be awarded to the winning entry in each of the following age categories: 9 - 11, 12 - 14 and 15 - 17. A $50 people’s choice award, chosen by visitors, also will be awarded.

Tea party for moms

On Saturday at 10 a.m. the Word of Life Church in Hempfield is inviting homeschooling moms to relax and connect during a morning tea party.

The theme of the event is “Building Up The Whole Homeschooling Mom - Body, Soul and Spirit.” For $12, guests will be able to listen to motivational speakers while enjoying refreshments. Open conversation is encouraged, but there will be prayer throughout the event.

The goal is to provide a place for networking among experienced and new homeschool teachers.

Guests can meet reenactors portraying early Pennsylvania settlers, British soldiers, Native Americans who inhabited the region and William Penn. Attendees will learn about Native American history and culture, see artifacts from historic Pennsylvania and enjoy refreshments.
