The Northern Arizona Oral Health Coalition (NAZOHC) announced Friday that Dr. Jonathon Robinson, DDS, had been selected as the 2024 Northern Arizona Oral Health Hero of the Year.
The award is presented by Delta Dental of Arizona, and was given at an awards ceremony held March 1 at Health Choice Integrated Care. It has recognized oral healthcare professionals from across Flagstaff since it started in 2021.
The award recognizes those living and working in Coconino County who raise awareness of oral health, support it across the lifespan and lead and organize oral health-related activities for the underserved.
Robinson led Cedar Family Dentistry in Flagstaff from 1993 until his retirement in 2020, alongside service as a volunteer provider and co-director of dental services at the Sid Davis Memorial Dental Clinic at the Poore Clinic. He received the Arizona Dental Association’s Dentist of the Year Award in 2015.
“Dr. Robinson has been a pillar of the Flagstaff dental community for more than 30 years, educating patients about the link between oral and systemic health in his practice while tirelessly giving his time to improve the health and wellness of the community,” said NAZOHC co-chair and First Things First northeast region senior director Peter Van Wyck in the announcement.
He also chaired the Northern Arizona Dental Society Peer Review Committee (for over 20 years), the Northern Arizona Dental Study Club (1995-2003), served as treasurer of the Northern Arizona Network for Dental Excellence and was a volunteer provider at the North Country Dental Clinic, Northern Arizona Mission of Mercy events and the Arizona Dental Foundation’s Give Kids a Smile Program.
Robinson has been a member of NAZOHC, American Dental Association, and Arizona State Dental Association, where he was a member of the board of directors (2012-13) and of the house of delegates (1998-2013).
“Dr. Robinson is one of northern Arizona’s most tireless proactive providers, be it through his daily interaction with his patients for so many years; his dedication to advancing the profession through board participation and leadership, or his myriad philanthropic activities,” said Delta Dental of Arizona Foundation executive director, Barb Kozuh. “This honor is more than well-deserved.”
Past recipients of the Northern Arizona Oral Health Hero award include several Flagstaff providers: dental hygienist Jenny Zamora-Garcia, Dr. Dale Hallberg and Maureen Pisano, the director of dental services at the Sid Davis Memorial Dental Clinic.
