A migrant was killed after crossing in front of a moving train in Santa Teresa, New Mexico on Sunday.

Border Patrol agents in Santa Teresa and officers with the New Mexico State Police found that a "large" group of migrants had crossed in front of a moving train near the La Union Railroad Crossing on Sunday, a spokesperson with Customs and Border Protection said.

One female migrant was struck by the train while attempting to cross the tracks and died from her injuries, the spokesperson said.

According to the spokesperson, New Mexico State Police is leading the investigation, and El Paso Sector Border Patrol will assist the Dona Ana Medical Examiner's office with identifying the woman under the Missing Migrant Program.
