A woman was fatally shot in Seattle's Central District neighborhood Wednesday night, according to the Seattle Police Department (SPD).

Police said shortly after 8 p.m., officers were in the area of 24th Ave S. and South Main St. when gunfire rang out. Immediately following the gunfire, officers received multiple calls reporting a shooting in the area. The department first posted on X about the shooting at 8:42 p.m.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found a woman unresponsive lying on the sidewalk. Officers attempted life-saving measures until crews with the Seattle Fire Department arrived. But despite all lifesaving efforts, the SPD said the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

SPD homicide detectives and the crime scene investigation unit responded and are working to determine what exactly led up to the shooting.

No suspects have been identified at this time, police said.
