Woman dies a day after crashing into light pole in NE Austin last week

A 91-year-old woman died one day after the vehicle she was traveling in crashed into a light pole in northeast Austin last week.

The Austin Police Department is investigating the crash which happened on Wednesday, April 10 at around 7:39 p.m. in the 2200 block of Forbes Drive.

Police say the crash happened after the driver of the vehicle left the roadway and struck a light pole. Carolina Lopez, 91, was taken to the hospital, where she was later pronounced dead on April 11. The driver was treated at a hospital for minor injuries.

The crash is being investigated as Austin's 23rd fatal crash of 2024.
