The St. Helena City Council has appointed Hector Lopez to the city Planning Commission.
Lopez is a carpenter employed by the Nor Cal Carpenters Union Training Committee, where he is a counselor and mentor to more than 5,000 apprentice carpenters. He’s fluent in Spanish.
He will replace Commissioner Marika Rothfeld, who plans to resign as soon as the council appoints her replacement. Lopez takes over Rothfeld’s term, which expires in June 2025.
Mayor Paul Dohring called Lopez a smart, capable applicant with a strong connection to the community who “would offer a sense of diversity that we’re sorely lacking, frankly, in our city.”
The council chose Lopez after interviewing all three applicants for the seat: Lopez, attorney David Prueter and designer Erin Martin.
