DAYS. COMING UP KELLY. THANK YOU. MOMENTS AGO, THE EL DORADO COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE JUST RELEASED THE IDENTITIES OF THE TWO BROTHERS ATTACKED BY A MOUNTAIN LION. IT LEFT 21 YEAR OLD TALON ROBERT CLAUDE BROOKS DEAD. YOU CAN SEE HIM IN THIS PICTURE ON THE LEFT. AND HIS 18 YEAR OLD BROTHER, WYATT BROOKS, WAS SERIOUSLY INJURED. HE IS THE ONE YOU SEE PICTURED ON THE RIGHT. THE FAMILY ALSO JUST RELEASED A STATEMENT. IT SAYS IN PART, QUOTE, WE WOULD LIKE TO EXPRESS OUR SINCERE THANKS FOR THE OUTPOURING OF SUPPORT AND PRAYERS FROM FAMILY, FRIENDS AND THE COMMUNITY. WE ARE ALL DEVASTATED BY THE TRAGIC LOSS OF TALON, YET THANKFUL WYATT IS STILL WITH US AND ARE WELL AWARE THE OUTCOME COULD HAVE BEEN EVEN WORSE. THE ATTACK HAPPENED SATURDAY NEAR DARLING RIDGE AND SKID ROADS, JUST OUTSIDE OF GEORGETOWN. OFFICIALS SAY THE BROTHERS WERE ANTLER SHED HUNTING WHEN THE ATTACK HAPPENED. THE SHERIFF’S OFFICE SAYS THE 18 YEAR OLD HAS UNDERGONE MULTIPLE SURGERIES SINCE SATURDAY. HE DID SUFFER TRAUMATIC INJURIES, WAS SPEAKING WITH ONE OF THE FAMILY SPOKESPERSONS. HE INFORMED ME THAT THANKFULLY, THE BROTHER IS EXPECTED TO MAKE A FULL RECOVERY. THE DEPARTMENT OF FISH AND WILDLIFE SAYS IT WAS ABLE TO FIND AND EUTHANIZE THE MOUNTAIN LION RESPONSIBLE FOR THE ATTACK. IT’S BODY HAS BEEN SENT TO A FORENSIC LAB FOR MORE TESTING. THE LAST DEADLY MOUNTAIN LION ATTACK IN THE COUNTY HAPPENED 30 YEARS AGO, NOT TOO FAR FROM THIS LOCATION. Officials on Monday identified the two brothers attacked by a mountain lion in El Dorado County, leaving one of them dead and the other seriously injured. Taylen Robert Claude Brooks, 21, died after a mountain lion attacked him near the Georgetown area, the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office said. His brother, 18-year-old Wyatt Brooks, is still recovering and has gone through multiple surgeries since then. Both are from Mt. Akum."We are all devastated by the tragic loss of Taylen yet thankful Wyatt is still with us and are well-aware the outcome could have been even worse," a statement from family provided by the sheriff's office read.Family described Taylen as an avid outdoor lover, who enjoyed fishing and playing guitar. Wyatt has been in the Mt. Adams Fire Academy since last September and aspires to work for Cal Fire.The brothers were antler shed hunting Saturday afternoon when the attack happened.The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) authorized a professional trapper who found and euthanized a mountain lion in the same area of the attack just a few hours after the encounter.The body of the mountain lion was sent to CDFW’s Wildlife Forensics Laboratory for testing. CDFW confirmed that during testing on Sunday, DNA samples collected from the scene matched samples taken from the lion carcass.
