CARBONDALE, IL (WSIL) -  In just under a week, Saluki fans will start to generate an opinion on the football team.

The Dawgs' spring game is Saturday afternoon.

SIU Football continues to prep ahead of annual Spring Game next Saturday

Nick Hill's bunch has been trying to determine what works and what doesn't. SIU is eager to play well in front of fans leading up to their final scrimmage.

The home of the Salukis is buzzing this time of the year and is filled with lots of new talent.

The Dawgs were on the field for their 12th spring practice Saturday. There was plenty to like and plenty to clean up.

Head Coach Nick Hill told us he is not ready to name players who are standing out, but he is keeping his eye on the team's energy.

He calls that a non-negotiable.

"It would be nice if you could scrimmage another team similar to what you can do in high school, but you are not able to do that," said Hill. "You have got to practice against yourself. You want to come out of the spring healthy."

The annual maroon and white spring game is Saturday in Carbondale at noon.
