The Rupnagar district police in Punjab on Tuesday arrested two men who allegedly shot dead Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Vikas Bagga. The police, after the joint operation with State Special Operation Cell, said a preliminary investigation indicated that the murder was planned in Pakistan and Portugal.
Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said those arrested have been identified as Mandeep Kumar alias Mangi and Surinder Kumar. He added that a scooter, two .32 bore pistols used in the crime and 16 live cartridges were recovered from the accused.
The DGP stated, “A Portugal-based entity funded and controlled the shooters, as came in the investigation in the past these people were trained and motivated with mercenary motive, the murder is also linked to some Pakistan-based terror organisations.”
Vikas Bagga was shot dead on April 13 while he was sitting at his grocery shop on the railway road in the Nangal town of Rupnagar district.
