Waveland is getting a dual-concept hotel, set to open by early 2026.

A $16 million Marriott hotel is slated to open in Waveland by early 2026, a first of its kind for the Mississippi Coast city and its first hotel development in over 20 years.

On Monday, development group Waveland Hospitality LLC announced plans to build the four-story hotel near the intersection of Highway 90 and Old Spanish Trail. The development will feature a minimum of 110 rooms and shared amenities such as breakfast and a coffee bar.

It will be a dual concept Fairfield and Towneplace Suites, both of which are under the Marriott Hotels brand.

The announcement follows news of several other major retail developments that will be opening along the Highway 90 corridor, including Harbor Freight, Express Oil Change and McAlister’s Deli.

“Hancock County welcomes this new investment to our main retail corridor, and we hope this project will serve as a foundation to the redevelopment of commercial properties along Highway 90," Scotty Adam, president of the Hancock County Board of Supervisors, said in a press release.

Construction is scheduled to begin in spring 2024 and completion could take up to two years.
