Victim identified, suspect in custody after deadly Sylvester shooting

The shooting happened early Saturday morning at a Sylvester nightclub.

SYLVESTER, Ga. (WALB) - The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has identified the victim in the early Saturday morning shooting that left one dead in Sylvester.

James Otis Collins, 53, of Sylvester, was pronounced dead on the scene, according to the GBI. The shooting happened at This and That Lounge on South Main Street in Sylvester.

Collins has been taken to the GBI Crime Lab where an autopsy will be performed.

On Monday, Juamarino White, 43, was detained, at a home on Covey Street, in connection to the shooting.

White faces the following charges:

  • Felony tampering with evidence
  • Felony voluntary manslaughter
  • Possession of firearm by a convicted felon

The Sylvester Police chief confirmed to WALB that there is no active threat to residents of Sylvester.

“The person that we believe did the shooting is the guy we arrested so it’s no threat to the community. If anybody got any more information that they feel pertains to this case feel free to contact Sylvester police department,” Chief Jackson said.

The suspect is in custody of the Sylvester Police Department.

The investigation is still ongoing.

Juamarino White is facing several charges including voluntary manslaughter.
