Woodward Police Department Detective Capt. Darren Navratil said Fernando Chavez, 24, was booked into Woodward County Jail on a complaint of second-degree murder after authorities said he attacked another man experiencing homelessness with a machete at High Plains Outreach Center in Woodward.

The incident happened at around 7:45 p.m. Wednesday.
