STATE HOUSE DISTRICT 51 COVERS SOUTHEAST FORT SMITH AND BARLING. JEFF BURKS IS CHALLENGING INCUMBENT REPRESENTATIVE CINDY CRAWFORD ON THE REPUBLICAN TICKET. ALSO UP FOR GRABS. THIS HOUSE DISTRICT 24, WHICH COVERS PARTS OF CRAWFORD AND WASHINGTON COUNTIES. BRAD HALL AND TY BATES ARE THE TWO CANDIDATES ON THE REPUBLICAN BALLOT WHO ARE SEEKING TO REPLACE REPRESENTATIVE CHARLOTTE FIGHT, WHO IS NOT SEEKING REELECTION. COURTNEY. WITH THE EXTENSION OF THE CURRENT 1% SALES TAX, A $26 MILLION, 50,000 SQUARE FOOT COMMUNITY CENTER WOULD BE MADE POSSIBLE. >> NOW, THE CITY HAS HAD SEVERAL MEETINGS ABOUT THE PROPOSED EXTENSION LEADING UP TO TODAY AND AT THESE MEETINGS. AT THESE MEETINGS, CITY LEADERS HEARD FROM BOTH SIDES OF THE ISSUE, AND SOME NEIGHBORS SAY THERE IS A DEMAND FOR A CENTER IN THE AREA. THE BUILDING WOULD ALSO BE LOCATED ALONG KELLER ROAD AND INCLUDE AT LEAST ONE OLYMPIC SIZED POOL, BASKETBALL AND PICKLEBALL COURTS, AND A FITNESS CENTER. THIS EXTENSION WOULD ALSO HELP REFINANCE BONDS AND EXPAND THE POLICE DEPARTMENT. THE MAYOR SAYS. IF IT IS APPROVED, IT WOULD NOT IMPACT THE CITY’S CURRENT SALES TAX RATE. NOW COMING UP AT SIX. AND VOTERS IN BELLA VISTA WILL DECIDE ON A TAX INCREASE TO SUPPORT POLICE PENSIONS. >> THE INCREASE WOULD GO TOWARD PENSION PLANS FOR POLICE OFFICERS AND FIREFIGHTERS. IF APPROVED, THE MAYOR SAID. THE AVERAGE TAX INCREASE IS ESTIMATED TO BE ABOUT $20 A YEAR, AND PEOPLE LIVING IN THE SERVICE AREA, THE ATOKA FIRE AND RESCUE DEPARTMENT, THEY’RE GOING TO BE VOTING ON A POSSIBLE DUE INCREASE. >> SO IF PASSED, EVERYONE LIVING IN THE AVOCA FIRE DISTRICT WILL HAVE THEIR ANNUAL DUES INCREASED FROM $50 TO 125. What Are We Voting On?

Party Primaries: Arkansans will vote to decide on the Democratic and Republican nominees in various races. Those include the U.S. president and the U.S. House of Representatives. The winners of these primary races will become their party's nominees for the general election in November.

You don't need to be registered as a Democrat or Republican to vote in these primaries. You'll be asked which ballot you want to use at the polling place.

Judicial Races: All ballots will include judicial races. Those will include three seats on the Arkansas Supreme Court.

Local Races: If you live in an area with a school race, a school millage vote or a special election, those will also appear on the ballot.

Super Tuesday is a traditional name for the date when a large number of presidential primaries are held.

As of Thursday, nearly 84,000 voters had cast ballots before Election Day, about 27% in the Democratic primary and about 70% in the Republican primary. In the 2022 primaries, pre-Election Day voting made up about 52% of the total vote in the Democratic statewide primaries and about 49% in the Republican contests.

How Long Does Vote Counting Usually Take?

In the 2022 primary election, the AP first reported results at 8:44 p.m. ET, or 14 minutes after polls closed. The election night tabulation ended at 3:18 a.m. ET with about 99% of total votes counted.
