Two people were charged in 2014 murders in Riviera Beach
Police in Riviera Beach announced Thursday they indicted two suspects in connection with a double murder from more than a decade ago.
March 4, 2014, is the night Cynthia Oziros lost her husband, Murat.
“He loved his family, loved his kids, his grandkids,” Cynthia said of her husband. “People in the neighborhood used to call him stepdad, because he was just a dad to everyone.”
Cynthia and Murat were married for nearly 30 years.
They had five children and 10 grandchildren.
According to police, Murat was standing in front of his business, the Florida Sunshine Tire Shop in Riviera Beach, with one of his employees, Deondre McCoy.
Investigators said two people pulled up in a car and opened fire, killing both men.
Just like that, Cynthia was a widow.
“Scared and lonely. Just trying to make it on my own,” Cynthia said. “It’s been hard sometimes. Very, very hard.”
For ten years, Cynthia has waited for an arrest.
She admits she had lost hope, believing her husband’s killers would never be caught.
Then she got the news that Lavon Heath and Jeffrey Brown were indicted for the murders.
“I didn’t believe it,” Cynthia said. “But then when the officer and the FBI and the Sergeant and the Chief came to my office? I kind of believed it then.”
Cynthia said she called all of her children to let them know their father’s killers have been found.
“I feel happier and lighter,” she said. “And I think things are going to be much better now.”
Police have not yet released a motive for the killings.
Police have scheduled a news conference for Friday morning to discuss the case.
