Storm leaves thousands without power for hours in Barnstead and Strafford
CARTER CAUGHT UP WITH FIRST RESPONDERS THERE ABOUT THEIR BUSY NIGHT RESPONDING TO CALLS. I THINK LAST NIGHT WE HAD 14 DIFFERENT CALLS FOR WIRES DOWN WITHIN A SIX HOUR PERIOD. A BUSY NIGHT FOR FIRST RESPONDERS AND UTILITY CREWS IN BARNSTEAD, WHERE YESTERDAY’S STORM BROUGHT DOWN TREES AND WIRES ALL OVER TOWN. BARNSTEAD FIRE OPENING UP A WARMING CENTER AS THOUSANDS WOKE UP THIS MORNING IN THE DARK. BUT THE WORK DIDN’T STOP THERE. HOW MANY HORSES? NINE. NINE HORSES. WOW. ONE WOMAN STOPPING BY TO GET SOME FRESH WATER FOR HER FRIEND’S HORSES. I MEAN, THIS IS WHAT WE DO OUT HERE. WE, YOU KNOW, WE HELP PEOPLE OUT, ESPECIALLY WITH HORSES OR PETS OR ANYTHING THAT NEED HELP. WE JUST DO WHATEVER WE CAN. MOST OF THE TOWN’S STILL WITHOUT POWER, WELL INTO THE AFTERNOON, EVERSOURCE AND THE NEW HAMPSHIRE CO-OP ARE DOING A GREAT JOB TRYING TO GET POWER ON. I DO HAVE TO WARN ANY OF THE RESIDENTS HERE. IF YOU IF YOU DON’T HAVE POWER, DON’T GO LOOKING FOR WHERE THE POWER IS. LET LET THE PROFESSIONALS DO THEIR JOB AND JUST STAY HOME. IN NEIGHBORING STRAFFORD, THERE WERE A FEW CARS OFF THE ROAD, BUT NO SERIOUS INJURIES. THERE WAS A CLOSE CALL THOUGH, INVOLVING A POLICE CRUISER. THEY WERE RESPONDING TO ANOTHER CALL WHEN A TREE CAME CRASHING DOWN AND LANDED ON TOP OF THE CAR. YOU CAN SEE THERE’S ACTUALLY STILL PARTS OF THE TREE RIGHT HERE. A TREE ACTUALLY FELL DOWN STRIKING THE FRONT OF THE CRUISER AND PUTTING IT OUT OF SERVICE. NO INJURIES. THAT’S WHAT WE WANT. A LARGE PORTION OF 126 WAS SHUT DOWN ON PARKER MOUNTAIN ROAD DUE TO SOME DOWNED POWER LINES CAUSING HEADACHES FOR DRIVERS. THE POLICE CHIEF SAYS THIS IS THEIR WORST STORM OF THE YEAR IN TERMS OF OUTAGES AND DAMAGE. MOST OF THE ROADS HAVE BEEN OPENED AT LEAST TO ONE LANE, BUT WE STILL HAVE SEVERAL ROADS THAT YOU CAN’T GET DOWN. BUT CREWS ARE OUT WORKING ON IT RIGHT NO
