MADISON COUNTY, Neb. (KOLN) - A northeast Nebraska man charged with six counts of child abuse is now accused of burglary.

Alexander Robak, 25, was charged with a single count of burglary on March 14. He was booked in the Madison County Jail on Wednesday for the charge.

Deputies with the Madison County Sheriff’s Office investigated a burglary at a rural property. The burglary took place between March 1 and March 3.

Someone forced their way into the building and made off with several items, including a checkbook and credit card. Authorities were contacted on March 4 after someone tried pulling money from the stolen items.

After the burglary, a check was written to a grocery store in Albion for $890.91. The credit card was then used at a bank’s ATM around 11 p.m. in St. Edward, Nebraska, but a cash advance was denied. Then the card was used twice at a gas station in Newman Grove, Nebraska, but the uses were unsuccessful again.

Authorities used video surveillance to place Robak’s truck at each scene, according to an arrest affidavit. Deputies wrote that someone at the grocery store also identified Robak writing the check.

A search warrant was executed at Robak’s home in Lindsay, Nebraska on March 13. Deputies said a stolen socket set, welding rods and a welding cable were recovered from the home.

As deputies investigated the burglary, Robak had been to court over a slew of charges going back to February.

Robak faces six counts of child abuse without injury, each of which are a class IIIA felony. He’s also charged with three misdemeanors: false imprisonment, domestic violence and willful reckless driving.

Platte County deputies said Robak tried running a woman off the road with a vehicle near Highway 91 and 370th Avenue on Feb. 17. After the woman stopped, Robak reportedly stood in front of her vehicle and prevented her from leaving.

Robak would later deny trying to run the woman off the road. The arrest affidavit does not mention any children being in either vehicle during the incident.

He posted a personal recognizance bond for $5,000 on Feb. 22 and was released from jail. He’s due back in Platte County Court for these charges on April 3.

As for the burglary charge, Robak is scheduled for an arraignment in Madison County Court on April 2.
