A judge sentenced a former Winona alderwoman to three years of house arrest.

WINONA, Miss. (WTVA) — A judge sentenced a former Winona alderwoman to three years of house arrest.

Sylvia Clark also received two years of supervised probation. She received the sentence on Tuesday morning, April 16.

A jury found her guilty of assaulting a law enforcement officer during a June 2023 city meeting.

At the meeting, Clark got into a heated argument with Mayor Aaron Dees.

An officer tried to remove her from the meeting and she allegedly assaulted the officer, resulting in her arrest.

Prosecutors said the sentence is fair.

The conviction resulted in her resignation on Monday.

Residents in Ward 3 elected Clark in 2021. Her term was to end in 2025.
