The Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame announced on Saturday that Newton had won the Bob Cousy Award, given to the best point guard in NCAA Division I basketball.

“It is an honor to receive this recognition. Credit to my teammates and coaches for always putting me in a position to succeed and put the team in the best position to win games. This would not be possible without the success of our team, and I am hungry to keep going in the Final Four,” he said.

Newton has been a key cog in the well-oiled machine that is the Huskies this year, averaging 15 points per game, coupled with 6.7 rebounds and 6.1 assists.

Him and the Huskies take on the fourth seeded Alabama Crimson Tide at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona Saturday night.

The winner will advance to the national championship game, where they will play the winner of the Purdue and NC State matchup happening earlier in the night.
