SUNBURY — A Sunbury man faces felony charges of rape in addition to charges of felony corruption of minors after the 39-year-old was arrested by city police after officers say he inappropriately touched a teen girl.

Nicholas Schindler, 39, of Chestnut Street, now faces additional charges of felony rape, aggravated indecent assault, statutory sexual assault, and involuntary deviate sexual assault, in addition to the felony corruption of minors Sunbury police charged him with last week.

He is being held on $150,000 cash bail on the charges, which were filed on April 12, and will be arraigned Tuesday on the new charges.

Officers said they received a child welfare report from Northumberland County Children and Youth on Feb. 21 alleging Schindler touched a minor inappropriately.

The report was originally investigated by Selinsgrove police and a Children’s Advocacy Center forensic interview was conducted in Sunbury, police said.

The alleged victim was 16, police said.

The girl told investigators she told a relative and told her mother what was happening while she was living with Schindler, according to court documents.

The girl told investigators Schindler performed sexual acts on her while she was living in Sunbury, according to court documents.

On April 12, Schindler met with officers at the police station and allegedly told police he did not sexually assault the teen and that he believes the victim’s relative is telling her to say things.

Schindler will appear before Sunbury District Judge Rachel Wiest Benner for a preliminary hearing on the first set of charges at a later date.
