El Cajon homicide detectives investigating homeless man’s death

El Cajon police are investigating after a homeless man was found mortally wounded early Tuesday, officials said.

Police received reports around 3 a.m. about a possible assault on West Main Street near Magnolia Avenue. When officers arrived they found the victim, who they called a “known homeless man,” suffering what appeared to be blunt-force trauma, the department said in a press release.

First responders rendered first aid and performed CPR on the victim, but he died before he could be taken to a hospital.

The name of the man was not released pending notification of his family.

There are no suspects in custody, and an investigation is underway, police said.
