Lake Zurich Police Department receives reaccreditation

The Lake Zurich Police Department was awarded reaccreditation by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc., officials announced Monday.

CALEA accreditation is considered the “Gold Standard” for public safety organizations and recognized internationally, officials said. This is the fifth reaccreditation award for the department after achieving initial accreditation in 2006.

“The accreditation process serves as a report card on agency adherence to established professional law enforcement standards,” Chief Steve Husak said in the announcement. “It is imperative, as we partner with our community, to have outside professionals validate that we are in compliance with all applicable law, policies and procedures.”

The reaccreditation comes after the department’s policies, procedures, personnel, equipment and facilities, along with four years’ worth of proofs of compliance, were meticulously inspected by an out-of-state CALEA assessor. The assessor reviewed more than 180 standards in order to verify compliance.
