TBI investigating after Coffee County mayor found dead inside parked car in his driveway
No cause of death has been revealed at this time.
TULLAHOMA, Tenn. (WSMV) - Coffee County Mayor Judd Matheny was found dead inside a car parked at his home Tuesday, according to the Tullahoma Police Department.
Tullahoma police responded Tuesday to a 911 call reporting a possible death at 1909 E. Lincoln St. Upon their arrival, Matheny’s body was found inside a vehicle parked in the driveway, according to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation
Matheny’s death is part of an ongoing investigation by the TBI, according to TPD.
“The Tullahoma Police Department expresses its deepest condolences on the passing of Coffee County Mayor Judd Matheny,” the police department wrote on Facebook. “Our hearts go out to his family, friends, and constituents during this difficult time. Mayor Matheny dedicated his life to serving our community, both as a successful businessman, farmer, and as a committed public servant. His leadership and dedication will be sorely missed by all who knew him.”
“At the request of 14th Judicial District Attorney General Craig Northcott, TBI special agents are working with the Tullahoma Police Department and the DA’s Office in a death investigation,” the TBI said.
“Shortly after noon on April 2nd, the Tullahoma Police Department responded to a 911 call reporting a death in the 1900 block of East Lincoln Street and found Judd Matheny deceased in a vehicle in the driveway at the residence. An autopsy will be conducted. The investigation remains active and ongoing.”
Matheny, 53, was a former state representative for the areas of Warren and Coffee counties. A cause of death has not yet been released.
Editor’s note: The mayor’s office originally told WSMV4 Matheny’s body was found inside the home, later, the TBI released its statement on the death investigation indicating he was found inside a car parked in the driveway of his home.
