RUMFORD, Maine. (Gray News) - An 8-year-old boy was killed and his younger brother and father are fighting for their lives in the hospital after a fatal crash in Maine.

Authorities said they received a call around 3:13 p.m., regarding a two-vehicle high-speed accident on Route 2, according to the Rumford Police Department.

Moments after the crash, a game warden and nurse who were near the scene found the 8-year-old boy unresponsive and immediately began CPR.

When first responders arrived on the scene, they identified a total of four victims. Police believe the vehicle that was occupied by the 8-year-old, his younger brother and father, hit another vehicle, WMTW reported.

Route 2 was shut down before it opened back up to traffic just before 6:30 p.m.

All four involved in the crash were taken to the hospital. Despite life-saving efforts, the 8-year-old boy died from his injuries.

The crash remains under investigation, but officials believe alcohol is a contributing factor in the crash.
