This is a totally pain-free way of removing algae, with absolutely minimal effort.

If you have a wooden fence in your garden, then you are almost certainly familiar with the frustration of ever-growing green algae stains appearing on it. Rather than letting the unsightly stains disrupt the peaceful atmosphere of your green space, most keen gardeners are always on the look out for an easy way of getting rid of the fungus.

However, a lot of the options out there to get rid of algae stains are either seriously labor-intensive or can be damaging to the plants growing near your fence. This hack, which comes highly recommended by many people, promises to lift the stains with pretty much zero effort.

Algae forms on your fence because of a combination of factors, a shady environment, moisture being present, and the dense amount of nutrients present on the surface of the wood. It often increases in the winter months, and it can weaken the structural integrity of your garden's boundary by causing rot in the wooden fence over time, which may leave you with a costly bill to replace it sooner than you expected.

Mrs Hinch fans - cleaning influencer Sophie Hinchcliffe - discussed the best methods of removing the algae stains on a Facebook group dedicated to gardening tips, per The Express, and there was one method that came out on top.

The simple life hack required just one product - Wet and Forget - and users were singing its praises, hailing it "brilliant" and explaining that it simply removes every scrap of algae from your fence with ease.

You can grab this product at DIY superstores like B&Q and Wickes, for about £18, and it's also available on Amazon if you prefer doing your shopping online, where it will set you back £34.79. All you have to do is attach it to your hosepipe, according to the product's website, so it will dilute as you spray it onto the affected area and then leave it for about ten minutes to work its magic.

One user said: "Wet and Forget. You will not be sorry. It’s amazing." Another agreed, writing: "Wet and Forget is brilliant. Just do what it says, spray it on and forget it." A third explained: "Wet and Forget will get rid of every bit of that green. Just spray it on and leave it. You could cover plants with plastic bags while you spray."

However, if you're after a totally chemical-free approach, you should opt for a dry or wire brush or alternatively a jet washer - and make sure that you cover your plants before you get to work.
