Turkmenistan ready to establish energy exports to Tajikistan via Uzbekistan, increase oil product supplies - People's Council head

ASHGABAT. April 5 (Interfax) - Turkmenistan's People's Council Chairman Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow has invited Tajikistan to establish exports of Turkmen electricity and natural gas to Tajikistan via Uzbekistan and increase exports of oil products, the Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper reported on Friday.

This was discussed at a meeting with Tajik President Emomali Rahmon during the Turkmen-Tajik summit talks in an expanded format which were attended by members of the two countries' official delegations on Thursday, the newspaper said.

The energy sector is also being considered as one of the possible areas of cooperation, Berdimuhamedow said, noting that the issue is, in particular, the export of Turkmen electricity and natural gas to Tajikistan via Uzbekistan, the newspaper said.

Berdimuhamedow emphasized that this subject was already discussed with Rahmon at a meeting in Ashgabat in August 2023 as part of the Turkmenistan-Tajikistan-Uzbekistan summit.

Berdimuhamedow also noted that Turkmenistan and Tajikistan are cooperating in the field of oil product supplies. In this regard, Berdimuhamedow reiterated Turkmenistan's readiness to increase their volume depending on the Tajik side's needs, the newspaper said.
