Four people are hospitalized in Grand Island and one man is behind bars following a four-vehicle crash Sunday morning near Doniphan.

According to the Hall County Sheriff’s Office, just after 6 a.m. Sunday, deputies were called to the area of Highway 281 and Lepin Road for a report of a four-vehicle crash.

The sheriff’s office said a vehicle, driven by Connor Hoffman, was stopped at the intersection in the middle of the roadway facing east.

They said a second vehicle struck Hoffman’s vehicle, which then led to a chain reaction crash with two other vehicles.

Four people were transported to St. Francis Medical Center.

The sheriff’s office said at least one of the individuals sustained serious injuries.

According to an arrest affidavit, deputies were advised Hoffman walked away from the crash scene.

A deputy and a Nebraska State Patrol trooper searched for Hoffman, who was later found in a field.

The deputy said Hoffman had bloodshot eyes and had a smelled of alcohol. He added Hoffman refused to submit to a breath test and medical treatment.

He is charged in Hall County Court with DUI-alcohol and refusal to submit to a pretest.

Hoffman’s next court hearing is set for June 17th.
