NORTH MIAMI BEACH, fla. – Two teens have been arrested in connection with a robbery that led to a stabbing in North Miami Beach Tuesday, authorities confirmed Friday.
According to arrest reports from the North Miami Beach Police Department, 16-year-olds Jeanluis Aran Torres Suarres, and Jackson Morales, are facing one count each of attempted second-degree murder and attempted robbery with a deadly weapon.
Police said they responded to an armed robbery with injuries near the 1800 block of South Glades Drive around 1 a.m. Tuesday., where they spoke with two victims.
One of the victims recounted witnessing Torres Suarres and Morales on a black moped while he was escorting a friend home on his black electric scooter, according to police.
The situation took a violent turn when police said the suspects chased and attacked the victims with knives, causing severe lacerations to one of the 16-year-old victims.
Investigators said the victim’s friend managed to escape and alert the police while his friend was being attacked.
Police said after the stabbing occurred, the victim’s friend improvised a makeshift tourniquet to prevent the victim’s intestines from falling out.
The injured victim was taken to HCA Florida Aventura Hospital, where he had emergency surgery and survived, according to the report.
Local 10 News obtained exclusive police body camera video that shows the victim writhing in pain when officers arrived at the scene.
Detectives confirmed the suspects fled the scene with the victim’s scooter and iPhone 13.
Police said Morales was apprehended while riding the stolen electric scooter, leading to the identification of Torres Suarres through social media.
Both suspects declined to speak with detectives without attorneys and have been detained in a juvenile detention center awaiting judicial proceedings, according to police.
Investigators said the victim’s friend recognized Morales after they both attended North Miami Beach Senior High last year.
Local 10 News spoke with North Miami Beach resident Mary Munoz who said the incident has shaken up the community.
“It’s scary and it’s crazy. You aren’t expecting to wake up to hearing people are stabbed where you live,” she said.
Police said both suspects were transported to the Juvenile Assessment Center in Miami-Dade, where they will wait to hear from a judge.
