HERKIMER — The Town of Herkimer convened its monthly town board meeting on Monday, April 15, at the Herkimer Town Hall.
Community concerns took center stage during the public meeting, with residents expressing worries about traffic safety. Herkimer County Legislature Representative Robert Schrader spoke on behalf of two residents who were troubled by speeding vehicles along narrow local roads.
A presentation by PureSky Energy’s Will Thurman highlighted solar energy initiatives within the town and county of Herkimer and how they may impact the local community and residents. Upon receiving some questions and feedback from the board, Thurman also displayed documentation of prospective site plans for the Edgar Street address that would be utilized in the development of a community solar farm and requested a special authorization permit from the Herkimer Board to begin to make the proposed plans a reality. A motion to bring these plans to the Herkimer Planning Board to determine whether these long-term plans may go into effect was approved.
Supervisor Dominic Frank engaged with three Herkimer High School students who attended the meeting as part of a class assignment on local government observation.
The session concluded with progress on old and new business, including updates on the Herkimer Town Park.
The Town of Herkimer Board meets at 6 p.m. on the first and third Monday of each month at Herkimer Town Hall.
The next meeting is scheduled for Monday, May 6, at 114 N. Prospect St., Herkimer.
