STAFF at a steelwork fabrication plant discussed their plans for expansion during a visit by MP Jacob Rees-Mogg.

Littleton Steel, in Chew Magna, fabricates and installs structural steel, undertaking secondary steelwork, and offering a range of design services with several projects currently taking place across the UK.

Currently in rented premises, LSL has recently acquired its own one-acre manufacturing facility located just 5 minutes from Junction 21 of the M5 at Weston-super-Mare.

During his visit to the current facility, Mr Rees-Mogg was given a tour of the site, meeting all 16 members of staff.

He learned about current projects and how the firm looks to expand its services in the near future.

Having worked on significant projects such as Hinkley Point C and the Crescent Centre in Bristol, Littleton Steel is a member of the British Constructional Steelwork Association, a trade body which represents the UK and Irish structural steel sector.

Littleton Steel director Andy Raines said: “We were delighted to welcome Jacob Rees-Mogg and BCSA to visit our workshop and to discuss the challenges and opportunities being faced, not only by our business but the steel and construction industry more widely.

"Mr Rees-Mogg was particularly impressed with the technical demonstration he received in the workshop and the insight he gained into the detailing process.”

David Moore, chief executive of BCSA, said: “I would like to personally thank Mr Rees-Mogg for visiting Littleton Steel and seeing in person the outstanding work being done at the facility.

“Littleton Steel is a valued member of the BCSA, and it is great to see that the firm is growing in size as it continues to supply structural steel for major projects taking place across the UK.”

Mr Rees-Mogg said: “It was great to meet the team at Littleton Steel and discuss with them the firm’s plans for future growth.

“I’m delighted that Littleton Steel is working on major infrastructure projects like Hinkley Point C and contributing towards a stronger UK economy.”
