CAPITOL HEIGHTS, Md. — A 48-year-old man is facing charges for the murder of a convenience store owner that happened earlier this month in Capitol Heights.
Officers with the Prince George's County Police Department responded to the business on Larchmont Avenue, nearby Emo Street, around 7:50 a.m. on March 5, after a report of an unresponsive man. Once there, they found 50-year-old Mohammad Hanif, of Annandale, Virginia, inside of the store suffering from trauma to the head. He was taken to the hospital for treatment, but died due to his injuries three days later.
Through an initial investigation, it was determined that the suspect in the had attacked Hanif while stealing items from the store. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner found he suffered blunt force injuries to his head.
The police department was able to determine Anthony Edward Stevens, 48, of Capitol Heights was the wanted person for the crime, with the help of information provided after a video was released showing the accused. He has been charged with first and second-degree murder. He is in the custody of the Department of Corrections on a no-bond status.
