The Red Cross has been stationed in Hot Springs Village since the day after the EF-2 tornado hit on March 14, providing a holistic approach to the community on a case-by-case basis.

So Thursday night we took cover and four trees fell on my house," said Holly Maultsby, Hot Springs Village resident. "We were trapped in our house, and the contractor that just did my roof four months ago, came out and cut the trees off the house and got us out and tarped our roof, but currently our house is not livable.

Hot Springs Village saw the worst of the destruction; affecting homes, power lines, a vast amount of trees, and even businesses.

Maultsby's home was so severely impacted that she and her family were forced to move out completely, temporarily residing in another family's condo until they were able to move back in.

“We just had hail damage last summer, so we had our roof replaced, the contractor who did it reached out to me that night," said Maultsby. "He’s going to be the one to fix our house, but obviously got to wait on insurance to come look at it before he can get started so it's going to be a long process.”

The Red Cross has been assessing damage, and providing financial assistance, medical care, and physical and emotional needs to those impacted.

“I’m just hoping that they can get our neighborhood cleaned up pretty quickly, get our houses repaired, and get back to a normal life," said Maultsby.

Local churches have also been assisting those impacted within the community.

“Just keep us in your prayers because we need it right now, more than just physically, mentally as well," said Maultsby. "It’s been rough trying to get through everything."

The local Red Cross is knocking on the doors of homes with significant damage but said that those who have yet to receive assistance to call 1(800)RED CROSS.
