GOODYEAR, AZ (AZFamily) — A man was arrested after police said he was severely drunk when he crashed a car into a Goodyear lake on Friday night, killing his wife.

It happened just before 8 p.m. at a residential lake near Estrella Parkway and Willis Road, south of the Estrella Mountain Ranch neighborhood.

Police said the driver, identified as 35-year-old Anthony Maiorana, was out of the car before it went underwater.

Anthony Maiorana was arrested on half a dozen charges, including extreme DUI and manslaughter.

He was taken to the hospital.

Officers said they were initially unsure if anyone else was inside the car so they called out the dive team to check.

They later found the passenger, 35-year-old Megan Maiorana, dead in the car.

Anthony Maiorana was arrested after he was released from the hospital and booked into jail on six charges, including extreme DUI, a misdemeanor, and reckless manslaughter, a felony.

During his initial appearance in front of a judge, the attorney representing Anthony Maiorana said Anthony and Megan had been married for 9 years and that Anthony was bipolar.

Investigators said Maiorana’s BAC was .234 when taken to the hospital after the crash, and they believe speed played a factor in the crash as well.
