May 2019: Des Fitzgerald, then president of UL, signs contracts for the acquisition of the former Dunnes Stores site in Limerick city centre
May 2020: UL privately warns the government its plan for the site will cost nearly €200 million to develop, and that without significant state funding it will be forced to shrink its plans for the campus. The funding is not approved.
