Multiple Tornadoes Hit Several Counties in Southern Illinois

LAKE OF EGYPT, Ill. -- The National Weather Service took time to go around and survey multiple areas in Illinois where high wind damaged homes and businesses during the storms on Tuesday morning.

One area they visited was the area around Lake of Egypt in Williamson County. There the National Weather Service reported preliminary evidence of a tornado hitting the community. This caused damaged to several businesses and structures.

The National Weather Service survey team also reported preliminary evidence of a tornado hitting the area of Stonefort. The high winds also caused damage to homes and power poles.

Survey crews also found evidence of tornadoes hitting in Saline County, just southwest of Eldorado and another track of tornadic evidence of the west side of Ridgway in Gallatin County.

The National Weather Service sent out preliminary damage results this afternoon (4/4/24). EF-2 damage was found near the Lake of Egypt, EF-1 damage near Stonefort, EF-2 damage just southeast of Eldorado, and EF-1 damage on the west side of Ridgway.
