TEMPE, AZ (AZFamily) — Two teens are recovering after being shot during a gun battle in a Tempe neighborhood on Friday evening.

It happened around 5 p.m. near University Drive and Evergreen Road, just west of Dobson Road.

Police said a 15-year-old was with another person when they were involved in a shootout with people in a passing car. The 15-year-old was taken to the hospital with injuries that weren’t considered life-threatening.

The driver quickly took off. Officers said they found the vehicle nearby but no one was inside.

A short time later, the four people, all under 18 years old, who were in the car were found. One of them was shot and taken to the hospital and should be OK.

It’s unclear if anyone has been taken into custody or what led up to the shooting. An investigation is underway.
