July date set for Nederland woman's intoxication manslaughter trial in fiery 2022 wreck that killed co-worker

She's been awaiting trial in the death of Madison Hope Thibodeau, 23, of Lumberton, who worked with her at Modelo's Sports Bar.

BEAUMONT, Texas — A 23-year-old Nederland woman accused of intoxication manslaughter in the death of a 23-year-old co-worker may be going to trial on the charges in a little over three months from now.

Carly Kay Abshire, 23, of Nederland, appeared with her attorney, Ryan Gertz, Tuesday morning, March 26, 2024, in Jefferson County's Criminal District Court before judge John Stevens.

Judge Stevens set her trial date for July, 8, 2024.

Abshire has been awaiting trial on a charge of intoxication manslaughter in the death of  Madison Hope Thibodeau, 23, of Lumberton.

She's accused of driving drunk and wrecking her Jeep after leaving work at  Modelo's Sports Bar in Beaumont along with her co-worker Thibodeau who was riding with her.

Abshire was previously in court in January 2024 for a hearing and was sent back to jail briefly after failing a drug test.

She was released the same day on a $60,000 bond.

Abshire was indicted in November 2022 for the fatal wreck which happened in August 2022.

Blood test results for Abshire, who agreed to give a blood sample the night of the wreck, came back from the Jefferson County Regional Crime Lab on October 14, 2022, according to a probable cause affidavit in the case.

Her blood alcohol concentration, or B.A.C, after the fatal wreck was .097. In Texas a person is considered legally intoxicated when their blood alcohol concentration reaches 0.08 percent.

Just before midnight on Sunday night, August 7, 2022, Abshire was driving herself and Thibodeau to Abshire's residence in Nederland according to the probable cause affidavit.

Both had just gotten off of work at Modelo's according to the document.

As Abshire was driving south on Cardinal Dr and attempted to take the Highway 347 exit she lost control of her 2005 Jeep Wrangler driving off the road and flipping several times the affidavit said.
