Arizona weather forecast: Kicking off May with above average temperatures

Hello, May!

Temperatures will run just above average to kick off the next month. Highs are forecast to reach the low 90s Wednesday and Thursday with a forecast high of 93 at Sky Harbor Airport both days.

The slightly cooler temperatures (compared to 95 and 96 on Monday and Tuesday) are due to a passing storm system well north of Arizona. This helps sink some more mild air down into Arizona. It may be a touch breezy Wednesday, too.

Conditions remain dry the rest of the work week with a sunny forecast Wednesday through Friday.

By the weekend, we'll watch yet another storm run north of Arizona. This system may drop closer to our state, which could drive another round of mild air into the Valley. It's a bit early to be certain, but depending on how close the system approaches, highs may fall into the 80s around parts of the Valley.

For now, the forecast calls for increasing winds and highs in the middle 90s Saturday with gusty winds Sunday and a high around 90 degrees. Next Monday is forecast to reach 89 degrees.

Although two system will pass near our state, they're not close enough for much moisture. Wednesday through Saturday will remain dry, and most of Arizona should stick with dry conditions Sunday, too. There is a low chance for a few showers along the northern edge of Arizona by Sunday. Again, the potential for any showers hinges on how close the weekend system gets to our state border.

Overall, expect dry conditions to begin the month of May.
