Applications are available for scholarships from various Richmond memorial funds. One form covers all nine of the scholarships.
Year-round residents are eligible to apply when entering or continuing their college educations.
The larger funds are usually split, which has resulted in as many as 14 awards in the past. The largest and oldest Anita Chapman Scholarship Fund was started 52 years ago in memory of a resident who died in her mid-30s.
Other more recent funds honor William and Hazel Dickson, K.J. and Maze Morray, Joyce Spence, Sarah MacDonald, George Kingsley, Helen and Harold Kingsley, Richmond Volunteer Fire Department and Malnati Family, and Mildred Wheeler.
Applications must be returned by May 1 to Scholarships, P.O. Box 153, Richmond, MA 01254. The awards are judged on academic achievement, community service and need. Applicants do not need to include a transcript.
Jan Hartford, chair of the Chapman board of directors, also said previous recipients are welcome, and the grants have been given in the past right through graduate school.
Forms are available at Town Hall, Bartlett’s Orchard, Richmond Consolidated School, Richmond Free Public Library, and guidance departments at high schools chosen by Richmond students.
A five-member committee of leaders from Richmond organizations chooses the recipients.
