FALLS CITY -  Falls City Public Schools Sixpence and the childcare partnership hosted a book walk to kick off the national “week of the young child” observances.

Students from Falls City public and Sacred Heart schools volunteered to present two books on the walking trail at Community Medical Center.

Sixpence Coordinator Susan Johnson said the event builds awareness about early childhood development and literacy.

Johnson: “We just want to spread awareness that this is how you bring a book to life. It’s more than just reading a book. You can act it out, you can dress up in character. You can take different pages of the book and do crafts and things like that out of these books.”

The students presented the books Giraffes Can’t Dance and poetic rhyme Brown Bear, Brown Bear.
