MIDDLETOWN, CT (WFSB) - Connecticut Blood Center has partnered with Connecticut Children’s Hospital to donate a dollar each time blood is donated for the week of April 14.

“This campaign comes at a critical time of the year for blood donations and provides the community a great opportunity to support this partnership in saving lives,” said Jonathan De Casanova, Account Manager and Community Relations for Connecticut Blood Center.

The Connecticut Blood Center reported a decline in blood donations in April due to vacations and busy schedules.

There is currently a shortage of O-negative blood, which is considered to be the universal donor.

Connecticut Children’s Hospital utilizes blood transfusions to assist young cancer patients during their treatments.

Across the country, pediatric patients require 1,800 units of blood every day.

Donating blood for an hour can save three lives in the community.
