While millions of people visit Forest Park each year, it’s home to countless creatures and critters.
Forest Park Living Lab, a collection of wildlife experts and students from various institutions, studies animal health and behavior in the popular park to better understand habitat needs.
As part of the effort, the lab electronically tracks the movements of various species, anything from owls to turtles to, most recently, coyotes. The lab uses devices that record an animal's position at regular intervals, varying from every five minutes to every few hours.
The map below was built by connecting points in the tracking data collected by the lab since 2021, which it publishes on movebank.org. The paths shown on this map are less precise in cases where the tracking intervals are longer.
