Free Catalytic Converter Etching
Livermore Police will provide free etching of vehicle catalytic converters at Las Positas College in Livermore beginning at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, April 30. The theft of catalytic converters for the platinum, palladium, and rhodium they contain is a growing problem. Etching involves inscribing the vehicle’s VIN (vehicle identification number) on the converter to discourage theft and help law enforcement track the converter if it is stolen. The free etching will take place at the Automotive Department, Building 3500, on the community college campus. The last vehicle must be in line by 3 p.m. Appointments are not required.
