Person crashes into two Rossford police cars, leads officers on chase as total solar eclipse passed over northwest Ohio

Gerald Hunt, 38, of Toledo, was arrested and charged for crashing their vehicle into two Rossford police cruisers, leading officers on a high-speed chase.

ROSSFORD, Ohio — UPDATE: Gerald Hunt appeared via video on April 9 for their initial appearance in Perrysburg Municipal Court. Hunt's bond was set at $75,000. Hunt is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on April 18 at 9 a.m.

A person was arrested and charged for crashing their vehicle into two police cruisers in Rossford Monday afternoon, leading officers on a high-speed chase as the total solar eclipse passed over northwest Ohio.

Rossford police Chief Todd Kitzler told WTOL the police pursuit began near Home Depot on US Route 20. The driver, 38-year-old Gerald Hunt, of Toledo, rammed into a Rossford police vehicle near Bass Pro Shop and began traveling the wrong way on Route 20 toward Perrysburg.

Multiple police vehicles followed after the wrong-way suspect.

The pursuit continued past The Hamlet Perrysburg on River Road where Hunt crashed into a second police vehicle before running away from the scene on foot. Police say Hunt then ran between two houses before officers caught up to them and tased them.

Officers arrested the suspect and took them to the hospital to be checked for injuries.

Hunt was booked and charged with felonious assault, failure to comply, and tampering with evidence.

No officers were injured during this incident.
