"Free Fare Day" is coming up for all Butte Regional Transit passengers. In honor of Earth Day on Monday, April 22, public transit riders will have their ride covered by B-Line.

After losing many riders due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Butte Regional Transit has been working hard to find new ways to encourage locals to use public transportation. Free Fare Day aims to do just that, while also reducing some of those harmful emissions from motor vehicles.

“It's a good way for residents to contribute to improved air quality in our region and it's a good day to try to ride,” said Butte Regional Transit Manager, Sarah Cain. “We’re anticipated next year maybe having around 700,000 riders,” Cain said these are the best numbers they have seen since the pandemic's impact. “We are getting back there, things have changed a lot since COVID-19, but we are still trying to find innovative ways to encourage people to take public transit.”

On Monday, this all-day free fare includes B-Line’s fixed routes as well as their paratransit services within Chico, Oroville, Paradise, Magalia, Gridley, and Biggs communities. No card or coupon will be needed when boarding a bus on Monday.
