Authorities with the Utah Highway Patrol have identified the man killed on Interstate 15 in American Fork last Thursday.

Sgt. Cameron Roden confirmed with the Daily Herald that 43-year-old Alberto Marcano of Pleasant Grove was killed after being struck by a vehicle while changing a tire on the freeway.

According to UHP, it happened just before 6:30 a.m. Marcano was pulled off to the right shoulder in the northbound lanes near the American Fork Pioneer Crossing exit trying to change a flat tire.

Marcano was wearing a reflective vest and had his hazard lights on at the time of the incident.

There were two other female passengers with Marcano, one of which was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries; the other was not hurt.

UHP says the investigation is ongoing. It’s unknown at this time what, if any, charges the driver could face. Roden said that will be determined pending findings by the Utah County Attorney’s Office.
