ANTIGO BUILDING DEMOLISHED

UPDATE:

A wrecking crew has arrived and torn down one of the walls of the building in Antigo.

Antigo Mayor Terry Brand initially told News 9 it would take two hours for a wrecker to get to the building, but less than an hour later, one was on scene.

Crews packed the gas meter with sand before making quick work of the south wall.

After the wall came down, crews assessed the remaining structure before taking down some more of it.

ANTIGO, Wis. (WAOW) — Part of a building collapsed in downtown Antigo Monday afternoon and traffic is going to be blocked off starting at 3 p.m.

WAOW received a call from a person in Antigo who said a building partially collapsed and City of Antigo workers were at the scene. We have a reporter on scene who has found that the building has been abandoned for some time and the partial building collapse could soon be the entire building. The building is being held up by wooden beams which have been snapping.

City officials are still working to get in touch with the owner of the building. In the meantime, they've called in a crew to knock down the building. That crew will arrive sometime in the early evening.

Our reporter on scene confirmed the dentist office next to this building was evacuated earlier today.

According to the City of Antigo Street Department Fifth Avenue and Highway 45 will be completely blocked off at around 3 p.m. The post also said to avoid the area of possible.

This is a developing story. Stay with News 9 for updates.
