A Culpeper man is wanted after allegedly shooting and injuring a juvenile during a confrontation Tuesday night, according to Culpeper Town Police.

The Culpeper Police Department obtained arrest warrants against Elmore Taylor Jr., 24, for felony shooting with intent to maim or kill, felony use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, felony discharge of a firearm in a public place, misdemeanor reckless handling of a firearm, misdemeanor brandishing of a firearm and misdemeanor shooting across a public roadway.

Taylor is currently wanted on all of these outstanding charges, and should be considered armed and dangerous, police said.

At approximately 9:03 p.m., the Culpeper County E-911 Center received multiple 911 calls reporting a shooting in the area of Vantage Place and Highview Court, according to a press release from Culpeper Town Police.

Culpeper Police Department officers responded to the scene, and once on location, located a juvenile suffering from a non-life threatening gunshot injury and confirmed that the suspect had already fled the area.

Officers provided immediate medical aid until the juvenile could be safely transported by EMS to a local hospital. The juvenile was later released from medical care. Per Virginia law, no additional identifying information about the juvenile will be released.

Based on the preliminary investigation, the suspect was identified as Taylor.

Taylor and the juvenile are known to each other. The juvenile was socializing with acquaintances on Vantage Place when Taylor was passing through the area. A verbal exchange escalated into a physical altercation.

During that confrontation, Taylor produced the firearm and began shooting, injuring the juvenile. Taylor then fled the area on foot and evaded law enforcement’s attempts to apprehend him.

Additional support responded to the area, including the Culpeper PD Drone Team, the Culpeper County Sheriff’s Office deputies, the Fauquier County Sheriff’s Office K-9 and Drone teams, the Virginia State Police K-9 team and the Fairfax County Police Department Fairfax 1 helicopter.

Despite extensive and exhaustive efforts, Taylor was not located. Culpeper Police Department detectives responded to the scene.

Taylor also has additional outstanding felony charges through the Culpeper County Sheriff’s Office.

This is an active and on-going investigation.
