A Provo apartment building was heavily damaged after it sparked fire and burned for several hours overnight Saturday into Sunday.

Provo Fire & Rescue Cpt. Sam Armstrong said that the building, located at 900 North 900 East, had been vacant for years and was fenced in to keep people out.

Community members began contacting dispatch at 11:30 p.m. on April 6 to report flames and smoke in the area, one of whom spotted the blaze form atop the Y Mountain just east of Brigham Young University.
